We are from these valleys
Our guides did not move here for the riding. They grew up in Imlil and the Azzaden, walked these mule paths to school, and learned the trails long before anyone thought to ride a bicycle on them.
That is a practical advantage, not a marketing line. It means knowing which trail is rideable after a storm, which family will feed twelve people at two hours’ notice, which pass holds snow into May, and which shortcut is a genuinely bad idea. None of that is on a map.
It also means the villages we ride through know us. We have used the same gîtes for years, we pay properly, and we come back. The welcome you get in Ait Zitoune is not something we arranged for your benefit.
How we run trips
Small groups, two to twelve riders, and effectively every departure is private. You ride with the people you came with, at your pace, on dates that suit you. There is no fixed calendar to work around and no strangers added to make the numbers work.
Every tour has a 4x4 shadowing it with bags, spare parts, water and lunch. It is there so you can ride with a light pack — and so that a rider who has had enough for the day has a comfortable option that is not a failure.
Our guides handle bike maintenance, first aid and navigation, and they carry a full workshop kit. Bikes are serviced after every tour rather than at the start of the season.
What we will tell you honestly
If a tour is too hard for your group, we will say so before you book rather than after you arrive. We would rather sell you the three-day trip you will enjoy than the eight-day trip you will endure.
If the weather is genuinely unsafe, we change the route or refund the day. If you want to ride something we do not think works, we will explain why and then help you find something that does.
The trails here are not maintained, not signposted and not insured by anybody. That is what makes them worth riding, and it is why the guide matters more here than in a trail centre.
Where your money goes
We keep groups small partly because it rides better and partly because a village can absorb four riders in a way it cannot absorb forty. The gîtes are family homes, the cooks are the families who live in them, and the muleteers who carry bikes over the high passes are from the valleys the passes connect.
All of our guides and drivers are Moroccan and most are Amazigh, from these mountains. That is not a marketing position — it is why the guide knows which trail is washed out this week, and whose grandmother makes the better tagine.
