Morocco e-bike tours open the High Atlas to riders who would find it hard work on a normal bike. We run Bosch-powered e-MTBs with 625Wh batteries and carry charged spares in the support vehicle, so the 2,300m passes above Marrakech become a pleasure rather than a problem.

The climb from Imlil to the Tizi n'Tamatert gains 540m in about 6km. On a normal bike that is an hour of steady work that leaves a lot of riders quiet at the top. On an e-MTB in tour mode it takes forty minutes and you arrive able to enjoy the view and the descent that follows.
The bigger effect is on groups. Fitness gaps that would normally split a group across an hour close almost entirely — a strong rider in eco mode and a nervous one in turbo reach lunch together. For couples and friends of very different abilities this is usually the difference between a good holiday and a frustrating one.
What an e-bike does not change is bike handling. The descents are the same descents. The bikes are heavier, around 23–25kg, which you notice when lifting them rather than riding them.
We run 625Wh batteries, which cover a full day on our routes in eco and tour modes including the climbing. On the longer days we carry fully charged spares in the 4x4 and swap them at lunch.
Every gîte and guesthouse we use has mains electricity, so bikes charge overnight. Running out of battery in a remote valley is the thing people worry about most and the thing that essentially never happens on a supported tour.
Riders who want the mountains without the suffering, mixed-ability groups, and people returning to riding after injury or a long gap. We also get a lot of experienced mountain bikers who want to cover more ground and ride more descents in a week than legs alone allow.
Our e-bike routes use dirt roads and wide mule tracks rather than technical singletrack, so no off-road experience is needed. If you do want technical trail on an e-bike, ask about the e-MTB versions of our mountain bike routes.
Minimum age is 14. There is no upper limit — a good part of our e-bike business is riders in their sixties and seventies who have no interest in giving this up.
No. Most people on these tours have never ridden one. Your guide spends fifteen minutes at the start on the assistance modes and lets you get a feel for the bike on flat ground before any climbing.
On our routes, a full day — typically 30 to 40km with 800m or more of climbing in eco and tour modes. Turbo mode drains it much faster, which is why we carry spares and why your guide will suggest saving turbo for the steep bits.
The tour price is similar. The difference is the bike hire itself, which costs more for an e-MTB than a normal mountain bike because the bikes cost more and need more maintenance. We quote it separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
